Hong Kong Old Version ID Card Expiration Notice

Change Background:

After the territory-wide ID-card replacement programme closed on 3 March 2024, the Hong Kong Government confirmed that smart ID cards issued before 26 November 2018 will become invalid in two phases during 2025 (see the official replacement guide for full details):

  • Phase 1 — 12 May 2025: holders born in 1970 or later
  • Phase 2 — 12 October 2025: holders born in 1969 or earlier

To stay aligned with this timetable, ZOLOZ will introduce the adjustments outlined below and will keep customers informed through this notice.

Description

Phase 2 (October 12, 2025)

APIs

allowExpiredDocument

Specifies whether expired documents are allowed. The following values are supported:

  • Y: Allow expired documents.
  • N: Pause ID Recognition process when an expired document is detected.

Note:

  • If a value other than Y or N is provided, the system will return INVALID_ARGUMENT.

If OCR returns a DATE_OF_BIRTH ≥ 1970, the system flags the ID as expired and immediately displays an “Expired document” pop-up.

If OCR returns a DATE_OF_BIRTH ≤ 1969, the system flags the ID as expired and immediately displays an “Expired document” pop-up.

Note:

  • If OCR returns an empty DATE_OF_BIRTH, the system cannot perform the expiry check.
  • To block every legacy Hong Kong ID card, customers can disable (or hide) the “Hong Kong – Old Version” document type.

Change Impact:

ZOLOZ updates the expiration judgment logic for the Hong Kong old version ID card (docType=08520000001) under the allowExpiredDocument parameter. No changes have been made to the logic for other documents under this parameter, and it does not affect other documents.
